January 5, 2012: Mario Pavone Sextet at Mattatuck Museum
On Tuesday, January 5th at 5:30 p.m., bassist/composer Mario Pavone will perform with his sextet at the Mattatuck Museum in his hometown of Waterbury, Connecticut. The group will present Pavone's original compositions as well as distinctive interpretations of music by Thomas Chapin, Duke Ellington, J.J. Johnson, Bubber Miley and Thelonious Monk.
January 13, 2012: Michael Musillami Trio + 4 at The Hotchkiss School
On Friday, January 13th at 7:00 p.m., veteran jazz guitarist and composer Michael Musillami will celebrate the forthcoming release of his latest record, Mettle, with a free concert at The Hotchkiss School's Esther Eastman Music Center in Lakeville, Connecticut. Musillami, who directs the Hotchkiss Jazz Ensemble (aka Right Brain Logic), will perform with his new septet, the Michael Musillami Trio + 4, an augmented version of his longstanding trio with bassist Joe Fonda and drummer George Schuller featuring special guests Russ Johnson (trumpet), Ned Rothenberg (alto saxophone and clarinet), Jeff Lederer (tenor saxophone and clarinet) and Peter Madsen (piano).
January 14, 2012: Mario Pavone Orange Double Tenor at 2012 Chamber Music America Conference
On Saturday, January 14th at 2:30 p.m., bassist/composer Mario Pavone's Orange Double Tenor ensemble will perform at 30-minute showcase set at the Chamber Music America Conference in New York. The group plans to present music from Pavone's latest release, Arc Suite T/Pi T/Po, which was made possible with support from Chamber Music America's 2009 New Jazz Works: Commissioning and Ensemble Development Program, funded through the generosity of the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation. Pavone will be joined by longtime collaborators Dave Ballou, (trumpet), Tony Malaby (saxophones), Philippe Crettien (saxophones), Peter Madsen (piano) and Gerald Cleaver (drums).
February 7, 2012: Michael Musillami Trio + 4's Mettle
Michael Musillami celebrates the 10th anniversary of his flagship trio, featuring bassist Joe Fonda and drummer George Schuller, with the release of Mettle, their sixth recording together. On this outing, the group serves as the core rhythm section of a new sextet, featuring special guests Russ Johnson (trumpet), Ned Rothenberg (alto saxophone and clarinet), Jeff Lederer (tenor saxophone and clarinet) and Matt Moran (vibraphone), created to fully realize Musillami's latest compositions.
February 24, 2012: Mario Pavone's Mythos Sextet at Cornelia Street Café
On Friday, February 24th at 9:00 and 10:30 p.m., bassist/composer Mario Pavone returns to New York's Cornelia Street Café with his Mythos Sextet featuring Dave Ballou (trumpet), Tony Malaby (saxophones), Craig Taborn (piano) and Gerald Cleaver (drums). The group will perform a wide range of music spanning Pavone's 2002 release, Mythos through last year's Arc Suite T/Pi T/Po, as well as new material.
